As Mooncolony continues to grow and work with globally-recognised game studios, the need for streamlined business operations has become essential. That’s why a new position has opened up for an ambitious, adaptable and commercially astute Finance Director (FD) to join our core team in Cambridge*.

The FD will play a major role in the studio’s overall strategic direction. In conjunction with the Founder and Executive Producer the FD will develop, implement and evaluate the business plan to secure clients and opportunities that enhance Mooncolony’s strong portfolio and reputation.

The FD will also work closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders across the business, helping inform and guide strategic decision-making, through provision of high-quality management information and performance monitoring.

This is a new role to the business so will be very hands-on, gradually bringing the finance function in house and implementing and automating new finance processes and controls.

What you’ll be doing:

• Own the financial operations and reporting/accounting function; both internally, and to relevant authorities.
• Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure relevant data is tracked and reported accurately in a timely manner, automating wherever possible.
• Provide regular forecast and scenario reporting and modelling to support management team decision making.
• Lead the audit process.
• Define and implement new cost control measures and general best practices for the studio.
• Manage our bank account and payment processes across jurisdictions.
• Have oversight of VAT and tax returns.
• Build robust, scalable, internal financial systems and processes from the ground up, bringing in house from outsourced accountancy firms.
• Act as compliance steward and protector of business assets.
• Provide guidance and financial advice to Production and Talent Management teams.
• In conjunction with the Founder, optimise our business model to enable projected growth and expansion.

What you’ll bring:

• Accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA) with strong Excel or Google Suite skills.
• Courage and leadership; you are excited to build a function from the ground up, bringing finance in-house.
• An inquisitive and entrepreneurial mindset, with a desire and ability to embrace change.
• A proven ability to interpret key financial & operational trends and willingness to question the status quo.
• A history of success - either demonstrated through promotions at work or through other activities.
• Strong commercial skills, ideally with experience in games or animation industry.
• Stellar communication skills, advising, influencing and negotiating across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
• Highly detail-oriented with a passion for problem-solving and a bias for taking action.
• SME business experience is essential.
• Prior experience at a scale-up would be beneficial.
• Ability to be hands-on within a sole role.
• Number 1 or number 2 in a previous Finance Role.
